With it's monastic origins this place is a haven of tranquility. Beautiful formal Gardens in the spring, log
fires in Winter.
Tudor in Style, there has been a house on the site since Roman times. Much
rebuilding in early 19C.There are 8 bedrooms let - Main Four Poster bedroom
ensuite, with others ensuite or Private facilities. (Tarrif and brochure
available by snailmail). The house has a Wedding Licence to marry people here and we are able to provide small
conferences as well as accommodation or "away from it all" business
meetings.
We started a vineyard here in the 1970s to prove Romans made wine in the UK this far north.
Originally it was home to Gilbertine Monks - dedicated to the education and
protection of battered and abused women in 11th century. Nothing new under
the sun! Hall given by John O'Gaunt to Gilbert of Normandy for use as
monastry and attached to that at Sempringham in Norfolk.
Located: Cathederal city of Lincoln (home of the Dambusters) 12 miles,
Newark 7, and Grantham (home of Maggy Thatcher and Sir Isaac Newton) - 8
miles. Birmingham airport 90 mins, Heathrow 180 mins. Ideally placed for visits
to WW11 US airbases, Belvoir Castle, Sherwood Forest of Robin Hood fame,
Rutland Water for exceptional fishing, and Burley House Horse Trials.
Used as location for BBC Middlemarch, and for Tom Jones released late last year.
